Information for healing period and aftercare

What to expect straight after the semi permanent makeup procedure?

  • Tenderness
  • Dryness and itching
  • Swelling
  • Redness
  • Flaking

This is normal defensive reaction of the body.

  • Following your appointment, it is likely that your makeup will look bold, dark, and prominent – perhaps not quite as you expected them to be. In most cases, the skin under the pigment will be slightly red, causing the area to look darker.
  • Within the first 7-14 days, the pigment will fade by as much as 30-60 per cent, depending on an individual’s dermis, skin condition, age and UV exposure.
  • During exfoliation, the treated area will start to itch and their texture will be much thicker. It is important not to remove any of the scabs or scratch the treated area. Usually, the skin starts to scab from the outside edges.
  • As swelling and redness subsides, towards the end of the flaking process, the darkness and thickness of the eyebrows will reduce. This will result in a softer, natural look.
  • Full colour deposition will be achieved in around four to eight weeks. This is the ideal time to schedule your touch-up appointment, to saturate more pigment and make any minor adjustments.
  • After eyes procedure eyelids appear red and puffy, this usually comes down on the same day, although it may take longer on some clients to heal and symptoms may appear more prominent.

What affects lasting of your makeup?
The longevity of semi-permanent makeup is affected by many factors. The predominant factor affecting the durability of the semi-permanent makeup is your skin. Skin that is very oily, very dry, UVA or UVB damaged, and uneven in texture often does not achieve the desired result from one appointment. This is due to greater pigment loss during the healing process. It is crucial to follow aftercare instructions. Your lifestyle, medication, metabolism, immune system, and age also have an influence on the lasting effects of semi-permanent makeup. Touch-up appointments should be scheduled 4-6 weeks from the initial procedure to extend the life of your makeup, alongside ongoing home maintenance.

For at least 7 days after a procedure or until the area appears to be healed, include the following daily routine:

  1. Apply the provided moisturising balm to the clean and dry area 1-3 times a day using a cotton bud.  Wash hands before and after application and use a clean cotton bud each time to avoid infection. Sometimes the Balm can remove the colour pigment, only a little (if needed) and I have already Sealed with a pigment sealant after the treatment..
  2. Use a gentle face cleanser and avoid the treatment areas.
  3. If the area does get wet, pat dry very gently with a clean towel or tissue.

If you have ever had cold sores or herpes simplex in the past it is important that you continue to use medication for 7 days after your lip treatment, as you did 3 days before. This will help prevent an outbreak, which causes discomfort and could result in colour loose or scarring.

Important “DONT’S”

DO NOT expose the area to extreme heat or extreme cold until healed.
This includes sunbathing, tanning beds, saunas etc.
DO NOT use makeups for 7-10 days and in case of eye procedures use a new mascara to prevent infection in appropriate time.
DO NOT apply Vaseline – this will make the area sweat, not allowing the pigment to heal correctly.
DO NOT itch, pick, scratch or rub the area – the colour will heal unevenly or cause scarring and infection.

Important Information

REMEMBER the colour is darker, stronger and prominent straight after the treatment. It will come down within 7-14 days, but the true colour will not come through until up to 4 – 8 weeks after the initial treatment.
During the healing process, the colour seems to have disappeared as it is obscured by the healing skin. Under no circumstances should you have further permanent cosmetic work on the treated area undertaken during the 4-6 week period. Your skin is still during the healing process, even if it looks like normal. Too early touch ups interrupt healing process and may cause scarring.

General Post Procedure Information

In order to keep your permanent cosmetic work in perfect condition it may be necessary to have a maintenance procedure about every 6 to 18 months, though this will vary for each individual. The cost of these procedures is roughly half that of the original procedure. Please see current price list for details.
To avoid pigment fade for as long as possible, protect your makeup from the sun or UV rays and use a good sunscreen or moisturizer with an SPF30.
If you are planning an MRI scan, chemical peel or any other similar procedures, please inform your practitioner that you have had permanent cosmetics.
You should not be eligible to give blood for 6 months after your procedure, please inform the National Blood Service of your procedure and date if you want to give blood.
If you are planning injections such as Botox and Fillers remember it can alter the shape of your lips, eyes and eyebrows.
Laser treatments can affect and change the shade of your lips, eyes or brow semi permanent makeup, always advice the laser technician you are wearing permanent cosmetics and they can act accordingly.

What will you feel during the healing process?

Eyebrows

“I felt silly for the rest of the day with darker eyebrows as mine were very light before the procedure. The next day I had got used to them and they had faded a lot. I felt no pain during the procedure or afterwards. The colour disappeared completely after a few days and it took two weeks to start to come back.”
Your eyebrows may need to be gently blotted to remove excess body fluids to eliminate crusting. Make sure you wash your hair with your head tilted backwards to stop water running down you face. Do not try to hide you eyebrows with your fringe in the first 2 days, this is the easiest way to cause infection – keep you fringe away from your eyebrows.

Lip Blush

“ After the procedure my lips had a burning sensation, after an hour this died away and they felt fine for the rest of the day. The colour was nice but darker than I originally wanted and this did worry me though I had been assured it was only temporary. The next day my lips were fine, there was no dryness but they were a little tender.”
“On day three I woke up with very dry lips, I used the whole pot of healing balm for the next two days! At the end of day three and on day 4 the dry skin was coming off my lips, it was very hard not to pick them. By the end of day 5 all the dry skin had come off and there appeared to be no colour there at all, I was worried that the procedure had no worked on me! It took two weeks for the colour to come back and it was much lighter than straight after the procedure, as promised. After my second procedure the colour and shape are perfect.”
The anaesthetic will have pass by within 30 minutes and your colour will come back into your lip tissue. Ice can be applied the same as the eyeliner to relieve the burning sensation. After 2 hours and before you go to bed gently blot the area with a damp cotton wool pad to remove excess body fluids and tiny blood spots to eliminate crusting. Apply the healing balm every hour whilst awake. Do not apply lipstick until after 7 days. It is possible that an allergic reaction to the ingredients of the lipstick may occur should you apply within this period.
Be careful when eating spicy, salty or citrus foods; avoid them if possible. Drink through a straw to prevent contact with contaminates and washing off your healing balm and also be careful when brushing your teeth.
If you suffer cold sores and are not using Zovirax or a similar product to prevent an outburst, I will not be responsible for excessive colour fading. I can guarantee a 90% chance you will have an outbreak of cold sores if Zovirax or medication tablets are not used.
REMEMBER
The colour is up to 50% darker straight after the treatment. It will fade 4 to 7 days after and the true colour will not come through until 4 weeks after the initial treatment. Often clients think they have lost their colour, please remember what I said about the colour becoming stronger.

RETOUCH APPOINTMENTS

Your procedure may need a retouch to ensure perfect pigmentation. A retouch is required and must be undertaken between four weeks and two months after the initial treatment. It is your responsibility to book this appointment.
